ADA Seal of Acceptance: When shopping for dental supplies, look for products with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This seal ensures that you are getting a quality product. To earn the seal, a product must pass rigorous testing for both effectiveness and safety. This seal is present on toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, even some chewing gums!
Brush: Brush for 2 minutes, twice a day. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush at a 45* angle to your gums. Brush with gentle pressure, using short, back-and-forth strokes. These should be about tooth-wide. Brush with a small amount of fluoride toothpaste.
Floss: Floss your teeth once every day. Use about 18 inches of ADA-approved dental floss, wind it between your index fingers, and use it to gently remove plaque and food particles from in between teeth using a sawing motion. Mouthwash: After brushing and flossing, mouthwash may be a good option for some people. Cosmetic mouthwashes are able to freshen breath temporarily, but do not contribute to oral health. Choose a therapeutic mouthwash with the ADA Seal of Acceptance for a product that will help keep your mouth healthy and strong.
