Do you have questions about nitrous oxide? If so, you’re not alone. Many people have questions about nitrous oxide as well. Our dentist, Dr. Jeryl Abbott, is happy to help you find the answers you’re looking for by giving you the answers to commonly asked questions. Those questions are:
Q: What is nitrous oxide?
A: Nitrous oxide is a chemical compound that is also known as laughing gas or nitrous. It is an oxide of nitrogen with the formula N2O. It is a non-flammable gas that has a metallic scent and taste. It is provided through a mask that is placed over the nose.
Q: How will nitrous oxide make me feel?
A: As you inhale the gas, it may start to make you feel light headed, tingly and relaxed. You will stay awake throughout the entire appointment, and you should remember everything.
Q: How long will nitrous oxide last?
A: It will only last for as long as you inhale it. Once the mask is removed from the nose, then you will begin to feel normal once again. You should have a clear mind after the appointment, enough to drive yourself home.
